Irans police establishes HQ to ensure security of upcoming elections

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni announced on Monday that the countrys Law Enforcement has established a special headquarters to provide security for the upcoming parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.








By establishing the HQ, we are trying to ensure the security of the parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections, so that people could cast their votes in full security and peace, Momeni told reporters in northeastern Golestan province.

The Law Enforcement is responsible for providing the security of elections in all fields and intends to take the necessary measures in security, disciplinary, and protective aspects using all its capacities, he added.

The headquarters will be tasked first with securing the candidates campaigns and sessions before the beginning of elections, and then with providing full security for the elections on the voting day and afterwards, Momeni explained.

The Assembly of Experts and the parliamentary elections are slated to be held simultaneously on February 26.

There will be 290 seats in the Iranian parliament and 88 in the Assembly of Experts up for grabs.

Members of the assembly are directly elected to office by people for an eight-year term. It holds biannual meetings to appoint a new chairman.
