Human rights report on Iran politically-motivated, biased

TEHRAN, Mar. 16 (MNA) FM Spokesman Jaberi Ansari said Ahmad Shaheeds report on the human rights situation in Iran has biased content and been compiled with political objectives and a discriminatory agenda.

Reports of this kind are written based on the opinions of a few countries and with an aim to target other countries by misusing the international human rights mechanisms, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari in reaction to the report of Ahmad Shaheed, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, to the 31st session of the Human Rights Council.

Jaberi Ansari went on to add, this selective approach not only fails to improve the human rights situation in the world but has unfortunately reduced it to a political dispute among countries and will, in the long run, weaken the promotion of human rights on a global level.

In our opinion, Ahmad Shaheeds report on Iran has biased content and been compiled with political objectives and a discriminatory agenda, he added.

Even method-wise, the report is subjective and unbalanced, and has been written based on unreliable sources instead of taking into account the existing realities, he said.

Jaberi Ansari stressed that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to its substantive obligations in the promotion of human rights and will continue its unremitting efforts in promoting the fundamental rights of its citizens according to the Constitution and religious values.

He added that Iran is currently working on a Bill of Rights within the same framework, but dismissed the report as a whole due to the reports political and unconstructive objectives.

The Islamic Republic of Iran deems the promotion of human rights situation an important issue for all countries and believes that it can only be realized through cooperation, dialogue and unselective and equal treatment, he concluded.
