Daesh income drops 30% amid territorial loss, Iinfrastructure damage

The Daesh jihadist groups income fell by nearly a third since mid-2015 as the group has been losing its territory and suffering damages to its infrastructure amid US-led coalition airstrikes and a Russian aerial campaign against Daesh in Syria, a report revealed.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) According tothe report bythe IHS, the analytical firm which issues regular reports onDaesh-controlled territories, half ofthe militants revenues come fromtaxation and confiscation ofbusinesses and property, while 43 percent ofthe revenues are contributed tooil production and smuggling. The group lost 22 percent ofits territories inthe past15 months, according tothe report.


"In mid-2015, the Islamic States overall monthly revenue was around $80m. As ofMarch 2016, the ISISs monthly revenue dropped to $56m," senior analyst atthe IHS Ludovico Carlino said.

Daesh oil production has declined from33,000 to21,000 barrels per day inthe same period, the report said.

According tothe report, the damage fromthe airstrikes onDaesh targets has forced the group tointroduce a range ofnew taxes tocompensate forthe financial losses. Fines are reportedly being imposed onDaesh-controlled territories fordriving onthe wrong side ofthe road and not answering questions aboutthe Koran correctly.

The US-led coalition ofover 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes inSyria and Iraq againstthe jihadists sincesummer 2014.

Russia had been conducting an aerial campaign inSyria forsix months sinceSeptember 2015 atthe request ofDamascus.
