TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Hamid Sourian won a ticket for the 2016 Summer Olympics in the qualifying tournament in Istanbul on Friday.
One of the biggest names in wrestling over the last decade defeated Tsymbalyuk Dmitry from Ukraine 8-0 in the semi-final and qualified for the Olympics.
In the final match, the 59kg wrestler defeated Jesse David Thielke from USA and claimed the gold medal.
The top two competitors in each weight class qualified for the Olympics.
The London 2012 gold medalist and six-time world champion gave Iran entries in all 12 mens events.
Sourian, who notched his most recent world title in 2014, had tripped up in the round of 16 in Ulaanbaatar by 2013 world champion Ivo ANGELOV (BUL).
