IRGC construction base could replace Koreans in freeway project
TEHRAN (Tasnim) The CEO of Irans Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company (CDTIC) said the company is ready to sign a deal with the Khatam al-Anbia Construction Base on the construction of Tehran-Shomal Freeway should Koreans fail to implement the mega project.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Ali Nourzad said the Tehran-Shomal Freeway Company has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a South Korean construction firm on developing the freeway.

He said that according to the deal, the Koreans should meet their commitments within four months in order for the MoU to become operational.

The official went on to say that if the Korean company fails to fully implement the project, the CDTIC is ready to sign a deal with the Khatam al-Anbia Construction Base, a conglomerate belonging to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The Tehran-Shomal Freeway is a project aimed at connecting the capital to cities in the northern province of Mazandaran.

On August 1, 2007, Iran and China reached an agreement to complete the Tehran-Shomal freeway project until the end of 2011. But Chinese corporations and firms failed to implement the project.

The freeway is one part of the National North-South Freeway which is the shortest path connecting the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf and plays a significant role in the countrys transportation.
