Iran committed to gender equality

Tehran, May 9, IRNA - Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi said the government is determined to meet its objective of guaranteeing gender equality.

The government seeks to establish equality and coordination among women's multilateral roles, said Molaverdi while addressing an Iran-Japan seminar on the theme of women, peace and sustainable development that started work here Monday.

Iranian government's measure to that end will lead to improvement in women's situation and strengthening of the families, she added.

Today the world is focusing on ways to ensure that women have active and sustainable contribution in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its goals, she said.

The world stresses special concentration on women's needs, the issue to which Iran also attaches significance, she added.

Proving her words, she referred to election of 18 women for Iran's Majlis this year.

On women's health, Molaverdi said Iran is one of pioneers in the field in the region.

All those measures, she said, will prepare the ground for putting women in way of development.
