New York, June 2, IRNA � US Secretary of State Spokesman John Kirby announced that the US government has authorized purchase of 32 tons of heavy water from Iran in April, saying that the consignment will reach the US in the coming weeks.

'A sum of 32 tons of heavy water bought from Iran will arrive in the US in the coming months,' Kirby said.

On April 22, the US Department of State officially announced that it has issued the permits for the purchase of 32 tons of heavy water from Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) worth $8.6 million.

The US Department of State officials had also said that the purchase of heavy water which will be used in the US nuclear research programs is an attempt in the direction of the implementation of Iran's commitments within the framework of nuclear agreement (with world powers).

Kirby in his press conference on Wednesday had officially announced that the purchased consignment will be handed over to the US in the coming months.
