Iranian FM urges US to take serious steps to implement N. deal

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blasted the US for procrastinating implementation of the nuclear deal with Tehran, and called on Washington to take serious steps in this regard.

"In our view, the first step has been taken for banking interactions but the Americans should take concrete steps with serious determination and steps and we are exactly studying all results and consequences of this process," Zarif said in a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian in Tehran on Sunday.

Nalbandian, for his part, described the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers as the biggest political event in 2015, and said it can be a good role model for settling many other conflicts and "we in Yerevan have removed the sanctions (against Iran) in action (based on the nuclear agreement) and we are ready to establish active banking interactions between the two countries".

He also underlined his country's preparedness to activate trade interactions with Tehran and encourage Armenian investors to increase presence in Iran.

In relevant remarks in May, Zarif called on the US administration to adopt practical measures in addition to verbal commitment to the Vienna nuclear deal.

"The obstacles on the way of economic cooperation between Iran and other countries have been mostly created by the US hostile policies and the cruel international sanctions (but) these obstacles are gradually being removed and of course, a part of them have been officially called off under the undertakings envisaged in the nuclear deal, yet we believe that practical measures are also needed besides statements," Zarif said in a joint press conference with his New Zealander counterpart Murray McCully in Tehran.

His remarks came after the US and its European partners made a fresh appeal for European banks and businesses to invest in Iran, saying they would do more to encourage legitimate business in the country now that most sanctions are gone.

"One of the practical measures is extensive cooperation between the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and the financial institutions and this cooperation is now underway," Zarif added.

"Persuading the European banks each in a specific way to cooperate with Iran is another agreement which has been done and another part is now underway," he said.

"This is a goal but we havent earned what we have to sufficiently and more measures are needed by the US in this regard," he underlined.

In relevant remarks in March, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei lashed out at the US for not remaining loyal to its undertakings based on the July nuclear agreement between Tehran and the world powers.

"The Americans did not act on what they promised in the nuclear accord (the JCPOA); they did not do what they should have done. According to Foreign Minister (Zarif), they brought something on the paper but prevented materialization of the objectives of the Islamic Republic of Iran through many diversionary ways," Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing a large group of people in the holy city of Mashhad, Northeastern Iran.

"What a hue and cry did they launch in the case of the missiles: Why Iran has long-ranged missiles? Why they (Iranians) aim and point to the target so precisely? Why they (Iranians) tested and why you (we Iranians) do military exercise?" he added.

"The Americans and one of the regional countries launch wargames every now and then in the Persian Gulf, which is several thousands of kilometers away of their country, while they have no responsibility there. Iran carries out military exercise in its own security boundary and home," Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
