‘Right to development’ constituting fundamental right

TEHRAN, Jun. 08 (MNA) – Labor minister has told a meeting of ILC in Geneva eradication of poverty constitutes ‘a long-overdue objective of the ILO.’


Ali Rabiei is in Swiss city of Geneva to participate in the 2016 International Labor Conference (ILC). He addressed a meeting of NAM members’ labor and welfare ministers on Wednesday; “today’s world faces difficult challenges and rapid changes in lifestyle, revolutionizing traditional ways of living; for some, such changes are considered as opportunity and thus a source of optimism; for some others however, they are sources of fear of the future,” he told the meeting. “Participation in this event indicates the grave importance of key issues for NAM. Our ideals are reflected in the meeting as well.”

“This is an honor and pleasure to attend in the NAM members’ labor ministers meeting on the sidelines of 150th ILC; with only 3 years to the 100th anniversary of ILO establishment, we are here together to discuss wide issues of labor such as peace and security, eradication of poverty, 2030 sustainable development goals, and impacts of landmark ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization,” Rabiei addressed NAM members’ labor ministers. “NAM highly respects ILO principles and this session provides an opportunity to represent developing countries in a multilateral session on labor.”

“With the ILO entering its second century of establishment, facing responsibilities ILO agenda sets for members entails coordination of action, decision, and behavior in a manner so as to contribute to secure opportunities for world of labor,” Rabiei told the meeting. “In 2015 New York World Summit, we agreed upon 17 objectives and 169 indicators of achieving sustainable development during next 15 years; these objectives have tremendous impact on world of labor.”

Rabiei who was chairing the NAM meeting, invested much hope that the session would contribute to finding tools and strategies by which to tackle problems affecting all member states; to preparing the path to attain common objectives; and to improving cooperation in the road to facing global challenges; “We all have heavy responsibilities in implementing of the agenda and guaranteeing the necessary instruments of implementation; now, with this document (No. 8), the international community is committed to eradicate poverty as a historic mission of the ILO,” he concluded his address.
