Iran Greco-Roman wrestlers claim 4 medals in Poland Open



Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have demonstrated outstanding athletic and gripping qualities at the Poland Open, Ziolkowski & Pytlasinski 2016 and received four medals, including three golds.

On Sunday and the final day of the Greco-Roman competitions at the O?rodek Przygotowa? Olimpijskichhall in the central Polish town of Spala, Mehdi Zaydvand defeated his South Korean opponent RyuHan-Su 4-3 in the last encounter of mens 66-kilogram weight category and collected the gold medal.

Zaydvand, who had been the first round off, routed South Koreas Choi Gi-uk8-0 in the second, before overcoming Polish wrestler MateuszBernatek 5-2 in the next competition.

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler overwhelmed Cuban competitor Miguel Martnez2-1 in the semi-final round and advanced to the final bout.

Bashir Babajanzadeh also picked up the bronze medal in the 130-kilogram weight class, after prevailing over his Belarusian rival Maxim Peshkov 8-0 in the third-place bout.

In the 80-kilogram category, Irans Ramin Taheriwon his final contest against Belarusian athlete Paul Pominchuk 5-0 on Saturday, and took home a gold medal.

Mahdi Aliyarialso conquered Yasmany DanielLugoCabrera of Cuba 2-2 and grabbed the gold in the 98-kilogram weight class.

The Poland Open, Ziolkowski & Pytlasinski 2016 wrestling tournament opened in Spala on June 17 and wrapped up on June 19.

Dozens of athletes from various countries, including Armenia, Belarus, Cuba, Egypt, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Venezuela, took part in the event.

While male freestyle wrestlers vied in the 57-kilogram, 61-kilogram, 65-kilogram, 70-kilogram, 74-kilogram, 86-kilogram, 97-kilogram and 125-kilogram weight categories, Greco-Roman athletes did their best to clinch a medal in the 59-kilogram, 66-kilogram, 71-kilogram, 75-kilogram, 80-kilogram, 85-kilogram, 98-kilogram and 130-kilogram sections.

Female wrestlers were in action in the 48-kilogram, 53-kilogram, 55-kilogram, 58-kilogram, 60-kilogram, 63-kilogram, 69-kilogram and 75-kilogram weight classes.
