US ought to do more on JCPOA commitments: Iranian diplomat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian deputy foreign minister reminded the US that it needs to take more steps to honor commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as Iran has fully fulfilled its part of the deal.

In a meeting with Romanias Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu in Bucharest on Sunday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi emphasized that Tehran has met all of its commitments under the JCPOA, a lasting nuclear deal with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He urged the other parties to the deal to carry out their undertakings as well, stressing the need for Washington to take more serious steps to meet the commitments stipulated in the JCPOA.

Tehran and the six countries reached conclusion over the text of the nuclear agreement on July 14, 2015. The accord took effect in January and was supposed to terminate the nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered mainly due to US policies.

Elsewhere in the meeting, Takht Ravanchi called for efforts to boost political and economic cooperation between Iran and Romania.

For his part, Comanescu voiced Romanias enthusiasm for closer ties with Iran in all fields, saying Bucharest is ready to hold a joint economic commission meeting with Tehran.

The two diplomats also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East as well as mutual cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
