Iran to finalize project to export gas to Georgia in weeks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) A project on exporting Iranian gas to Georgia will be finalized within the next two months, an Iranian official announced Monday.

According to managing director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC), Alireza Kameli, Tehran is seriously working on the gas export project.

He said Iran is going to export gas to Georgia through a supply station at a border village used for delivering gas to Armenia.

According to the official, the capacity of the gas metering station in Nurduz outstrips the amount being exported to Armenia, so that the same facility will be used for supplying gas to Georgia.

Iran has built a pipeline, traversing 113 kilometers, between its northwestern city of Tabriz and Nurduz border crossing to export gas to Armenia.

In 2004, the Yerevan government also initiated construction of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline. The pipeline became fully operational in 2007.
