One person has been killed and 12 others injured in an explosion at a bar in Germanys southern city of Ansbach.
There are conflicting reports about the source of the late Sunday explosion but the citys mayor, Carda Seidel, said it was caused by an explosive device.
A spokesman for the regional interior ministry said, "The explosion was set off deliberately," adding that authorities are currently trying to establish the exact cause.
According to Bavarias interior ministry, the bomber was a 27-year-old Syrian refugee who had come to Germany two years ago but was denied asylum.
The area around the bar has been cordoned off by the police, and some 2,500 people have been evacuated from a nearby music festival.
The explosion comes amid heightened tensions in Germany following a series of bloody incidents over the last week.
On Friday, a shooting rampage claimed nine lives in Munich, and on July 18, an axe attack injured several on a train on Wurzburg.
