Tehran, Aug 8, IRNA Semnan University's researchers have synthesized nano-sorbent of heavy metals using aloe vera which is capable of adsorbing and maintaining heavy metals' ions from the aquatic environment.
According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council, rapid industrialization of the societies causes toxic heavy metals to enter water flow.
Some of the most important sources of heavy metals are electroplating and chemical industries, as well as industries to produce fuel and manufacture batteries.
Increase the density of heavy metals in human body will have adverse effects on physiological systems of kidneys, brain and lungs.
Semnan University researcher Hassan Zavar emphasized the necessity of access to a cheap sorbent to adsorb and remove heavy metals, saying that regarding the increasing use of adsorption process to remove environmental pollutants like heavy metals, choosing a technically and economically appropriate sorbent is of importance.
He added that aloe vera leaves ash was used to synthesize a magnetic nano-sorbent and it was used in removing heavy metals' ions like copper, zinc, chromium and lead.
Based on the results, the optimal adsorption for copper, zinc, chromium and lead's ions are 333, 345, 4.71 and 333 mg respectively.
