STRASBOURG (Sputnik) Syria is a "monumental challenge" tothe international community and, first and foremost, the sides need toensure a truce and unhindered humanitarian aid delivery.
"Of course, we have toinclude all the parties involved inthe conflict, the counties inthe region and also Russia and Turkey, and I would add Iran, we need all countries aroundat the negotiating table," Hollande said atthe Parliamentary Assembly ofthe Council ofEurope (PACE) meeting.
On Monday, the autumn PACE plenary session kicked offin the French city ofStrasbourg. It will last throughFriday. Late last week, Russia aspermanent UNSC representative blocked the French draft resolution onSyrian crisis settlement, however, it was unable tosecure support forits own draft inthe UN Security Council.
Russia's new draft resolution provided, inparticular, forthe ceasefire inthe hotspot Aleppo province, nearwhich an UN-Syrian Arab Red Crescent humanitarian convoy was hit bya strike last month.
As a result, 18 of31 trucks were destroyed and atleast 21 individuals were killed. The attack marked the collapse ofa Russia-US bilateral ceasefire agreement negotiated atthe time. Syria has been mired incivil war since2011, withopposition factions and Islamist terrorist groups such asDaesh and al-Nusra Front, now known asJabhat Fatah al-Sham, both outlawed inRussia, fighting the Syrian Army.
