'Aircraft purchase talks reach final stages'

TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (MNA) Irans Roads and Urban Development Minister Akhoundi said negotiations on buying Boeing and Airbus aircraft are in final stages and will soon become implemented.


On the sidelines of inking six cooperation agreements between Iran and Germany, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi said given that necessary permits from Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) have been received, the lucrative deal with Airbus and Boeing companies to buy brand new planes will soon yield fruitful outcomes.

Several foreign companies have made proposals to establish airliners inside the country, noted the official underling that tough conditions have been set for presence of foreign investors.

He went on to clarify that an airliner capable of offering all services is required to have an initial fund of more than 110 million dollars; moreover, applicants need to possess skilled and experienced staff while its fleet should not be older than the year 2000.

Akhundi pointed to high willingness of foreign firms saying several of them have voiced readiness and a number of them, having taken primary licenses, are following up further procedures.

Capable companies with good financial base and good technical ability are stepping forward to improve the level of Irans aviation fleet, Irans road minister concluded.
