Tehran to host 1st West Asian Conf. on Cancer

TEHRAN, Oct. 23 (MNA) The executive secretary of the West Asian Conference on Cancer has said it will be held November 17-19.

MD Farhad Samiei told reporters on Sunday that the alarming rise in diagnosis with cancer of individuals of all age groups provided the impetus for WHO to name it the silent crisis of the human health; industrial pollution of air, soil, and food has contributed to cancers in developing countries, thus imposing significant costs and the pain of the disease to governments and families of the affected people alike, he told the press. The UN recommends the member states to address the issue in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and relief of cancers.

Samiei then turned to Iranian context where the authorities had waged attempts to organize for all levels to meet the challenges; to improve education, research, and treatment of cancer and to accurately approach the disease and to promote the comprehensive cancer plan, the upcoming conference is an effective event; during three days of conference, latest achievements in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer will be discussed and information will be shared with participants; cellular-molecular aspects, imaging, and aggressive interventions in treatment of cancers, clinical pharmacy in cancer, hematologic malignancies, cancer surgery, solid tumor, and psychological perspectives in cancers provide conference with topic of discussion, he detailed.

Scholars from 15 countries including from Canada, Austria, the US, France, Britain, Turkey, Iraq, Egypt, etc., will participate in the conference, Samiei added.
