Slovenian President to visit Iran, open embassy in Tehran

Fars News Agency- Slovenian President Borut Pahor is due to visit Iran in the near future to inaugurate his country's embassy in Tehran.

"Concurrent with the visit, the Republic of Slovenia's embassy will be inaugurated in Tehran and a number of cooperation documents will be signed," Slovenian Deputy Foreign Minister DarjaBavdaz Kure said in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Wednesday afternoon.

Zarif, for his part, welcomed the expansion of all-out ties between the two countries, and underlined the necessity for continued consultations with the high-ranking Slovenian officials.

During the meeting, the two officials also conferred on regional and international issues, and stressed the necessity for sending humanitarian aid to the Syrian and Yemeni people.

In relevant remarks in June, Slovenian Parliament Speaker Milan Brglez in a message to his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani underlined his country's enthusiasm for the development of relations with Tehran.

"I firmly believe that MPs of both parliaments will pave the way for establishing ties on the basis of mutual respect and will pursue new opportunities for strengthening relations and cooperation," he added.

Brglez also invited Larijani to visit his county in the near future.

Also in the same month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for the broadening of bilateral relations with Slovenia in different areas.

"I hope that Tehran-Ljubljana ties would widen in cultural, economic and political fields," President Rouhani said in a message to his Slovenian counterpart Pahor.
