IRNA President Hassan Rouhani on Friday strongly condemned the violent and desperate act of terrorists in Iraq in killing Arbaeen pilgrims and said it indicates the misery of the bloodthirsty and blind-minded criminals.
In a message, President Rouhani expressed the readiness of the Iranian government in offering services and medical treatment to those injured in the bitter terrorist move.
The terrorist act which claimed lives of many pilgrims who had taken part in the mourning ceremony during Arbaeen rituals was heart-rendering to all Muslims mainly the Shia people, President Rouhani said in the message.
He further strongly called on the Iraqi government to seriously deal with the terrorists who have blood on their hands.
The President also voiced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to provide cooperation and assistance to those injured in the bitter incident.
He said he also prayed for those attained martyrdom in the catastrophe and expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to fight against terrorists and extremists, he said and expressed the hope that the Iraqi nation will witness victory in fight against terrorist groups and their supporters through unity and solidarity.
A truck bomb went off in the Shoumeli village, 120 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, targeting vehicles loaded with passengers most of them Iranians who were returning home from the holy shrines in Iraq after Arba'een rituals.
Reports so far put the number of the dead at more than 71 with a lot more injured.
