IRNA � Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and members of the parliamentary friendship group of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party discussed issues of mutual interest in a meeting in Tokyo on Thursday.


Zarif arrived in the Japanese capital on December 6, 2016, for talks with the country�s top-ranking officials on the last leg of his three-nation Asian tour which has earlier taken him to India and China respectively.

He was invited by LDP Vice-President Masahiko Komura to a working breakfast meeting at the Imperial Hotel where the two sides exchanged views on how LDP's parliamentary friendship group could help promote Tehran-Yokyo cordial relations.

The Japanese lawmakers and their Iranian guests also reviewed latest developments in the Middle East region.

Referring to Iran's landmark nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the US recent efforts to breach the deal by voting for extension of the Iranian Sanctions Act (ISA), the Japanese parliamentarians noted that JCPOA is a multilateral document that is supported by the international community.

Nuclear tests carries out by North Korea was another issue discussed in the meeting. The Iranian side underlined that Tehran is opposed to the existence of nuclear weapons all across the world.

Referring to the crises in Syria and the Saudi war against Yemen, the Iranian delegation noted that the Saudi rulers� support for terrorist groups will finally extend to their own country.
