Sputnik- Iran has tested a new variant of the Toophan anti-tank missile during the ongoing Muhammad Rasulullah drills in the Gulf of Oman, local media reported Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Iranian military helicopters fired the missiles while targeting improvised enemy vessels, the Tasnim news agency reported.
The Iranian-made missile has upgraded range, accuracy and launch system parameters. The three-day Muhammad Rasoulallah exercises entered their second day onMonday.
The war games are taking place inan area ofsome 220,000 square kilometers (85,000 square miles). The drills aim toimprove the combat readiness ofIran's ground troops. Air force units are also taking part. The Toophan missile has been produced since2000. It has seen a number ofupgrades increasing warhead weight and adding laser guidance systems. The Qa'em variant is used againsthelicopters.
