Tasnim Jabhat Fath al-Sham, which changed its name from Jabhat al-Nusra back in July, is one of numerous foreign-backed terrorist groups operating in Syria, and is considered al-Qaedas main branch in the Arab country.
The extremist group, which was established in late 2011, is now operating in various parts of Syria, including suburbs of Damascus and Aleppo, as well as Idlib.
Led by Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the Takfiri group has been excluded from on-off US- and Russia-sponsored Syrian peace talks in Geneva and Vienna.
On July 28, 2016, Julani changed the name of this group, claiming a separation from al-Qaeda.
Jabhat Fath al-Sham is sanctioned by the UN Security Council and listed as a terrorist group by the US, Russia and Iran.
This group has recruited and trained terrorists from various nationalities and has large amounts of military equipment in a sense one can say they are the most dangerous active terrorist group in Syria.
