Sputnik- The UN Security Council on Saturday unanimously adopted a draft resolution submitted by Russia and Turkey on a comprehensive resolution of the Syrian crisis, including the ceasefire regime and political talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups in Astana, Kazakhstan in January 2017.
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) On Friday, Russian Ambassador tothe United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Moscow hopes the UN Security Council will take upa vote and unanimously adopt a draft resolution onSyria, which is based ontalks and documents issued inAstana, Kazakhstan onThursday. The draft resolution has been unanimously adopted asresolution 2336, current SC President Spanish Envoy Roman Oyarzun Marchesi said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced onThursday that the Syrian government and armed opposition groups had reached an agreement ona nationwide ceasefire inSyria and onreadiness tostart peace talks.
Putin called onthe Syrian government, armed opposition and all countries withinfluence onthe situation inthe Arab republic tosupport the reached agreements and totake part inthe anticipated talks inAstana. A nationwide ceasefire betweenthe Syrian government and opposition factions came intoforce atmidnight onFriday. Russia and Turkey serve asguarantors ofthe ceasefire deal, which paves the way fornegotiations betweenthe warring parties.
