Iranian trade minister discusses bilateral ties with Turkish officials

FNA- Iranian Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh in separate meetings with Turkish officials in Ankara discussed expansion of economic relations.

Nematzadeh met with Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybeki who is also co-chairman of Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commission.

The Iranian and Turkish ministers discussed standards applied by Turkey to certain Iranian export goods as well as expansion of the list of commodities subject to preferential trade agreement between the two neighboring countries.

Presently, a total 125 Turkish commodities being exported to Iran enjoy tariff discount while Turkey is offering discounts on 140 types of Iranian export goods.

Previously, negotiations were held between Tehran and Ankara over addition of 40 types of export commodities to the list by each side.

Relevant decisions are expected to be taken in this regard during the joint meeting between Nematzadeh and other Turkish officials.

In relevant remarks in late June, Taherian Fard said that the economies of Iran and Turkey complement each other, and stressed the need for the further consolidation of ties and cooperation.

"Capacities of Iran and Turkey's economies are complementary and we hope that synergy and using the two countries' scientific and economic capabilities will lead to development and assistance to other Islamic countries," Taherian Fard said in a meeting with Secretary-General of Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) Mehmet Metin in Ankara.

During the meeting, Taherian Fard and Metin underlined the importance of the development of mutual cooperation to help the OIC plans to increase welfare of the Islamic countries.

Metin, for his part, appreciated Iran's role in the OIC, and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the most powerful countries with which we have the highest level of cooperation."

Iran and Turkey have been pursuing increasing widening of their ties in various fields in the last two decades. Iran is a main energy supplier to Turkey and Ankara has made huge investments in Iran.
