MNA Third-time Golden Globe nominated filmmaker Asghar Farhadi stopped short of winning 2017 Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film on Sun., conceding the award to Paul Verhoeven's thriller'Elle'.
The 74th Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place Sunday night on Jan. 8, where the critically-acclaimed musical 'La La Land' won all seven of the categories it was nominated in, including Best Actor award for Ryan Gosling,Best Actress for Emma StoneandBest Director for its auteurDamian Chazelle.
Asghar Farhadis The Salesman had a good chance of winning this years Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film which would make it his second Golden Globe winafter A Separation, as it was named by the US National Board of Review as the best foreign language film of the year. However, the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA)that had nominated Farhadis The Salesman for Best Foreign Language Film, gave the award to Elle.
The Iranian drama tells the story of Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti), a couple who are part-time actors playing Willy and Linda Loman in a Tehran production of Arthur Millers 'Death of a Salesman', when an intruder in their new home shakes this marriage to its core.
Elle also brought lead actress Isabelle Huppert the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.
The Salesman has also been chosen to represent Iran at the 2017 Academy Awards. It remains to be seen if Farhadi can bring another Oscar for the Iranian cinema.
