Injury toll in Plasco collapse reaches 222

IRNA - Laste reports released on Thursday indicated that the number of those wounded at the Plasco Trade Center fire and collapse has risen to 222, said the director of Public Relations Office of Tehran Emergency Center.

Hassan Abassi told IRNA that technicians of Tehran Emergency Center have provided outpatient and recovery treatment for 169 injured and 53 others have been taken to Tehran hospitals.

The official said only one firefighter with serious injuries is still at the hospital.

He noted that operations to remove the rubble are still underway at the site of the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, sokesman of Tehran Fire Department Jalaleddin Maleki said earlier on Thursday that the total number of causulties in the fatal incident has risen to 19 (15 firefighters and four citizens) so far.

Plasco Trade Center, the 17-storey building collapsed in downtown Tehran on January 19 while a number of firefighters were inside the building to rescue those trapped in the huge fire.

Plasco was the first high rise building in the Iranian capital and the symbol of Tehran's modernization in 1962.
