MNA Hamedans first and countrys largest solar power plant has been unveiled by Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian.
The power plant, constructed in a track of land with an area of 10 hectares is located in Hamedan-Saveh highway, 44km from Hamedan near Qirkhlar village. Dubbed Persian Gulf, 7-mW solar power plant had been financed totally by foreign investment of 8mn, Reza Teimouri Head of Hamedan Provincial Utilities Distribution Co. told IRNA correspondent on Saturday that indigenous technology contributed to the power plant structure as well; transformers were contributed by domestic manufacturers; 23km of transfer cables and 15km of light fiber, and MV and LV equipment are all domestically produced, he added.
Provincial governor succeeded in bringing in foreign investment and signing of a deal with SANA, Iran Power PlantInvestment Company to build two solar power plants each 7mW capacity; the construction was completed within 6 months, Teimouri told IRNA. In the past, sanctions on place restricted the import of facilities and power plant equipment, which had arisen cost of generation of each megawatts of electricity to $ 2.6mn of investment.
Solar power plants enjoy advantages which makes them preferable to conventional power plants which operate using fossil fuels; solar power plants are environmentally-friendly and create jobs without contributing adversely the greenhouse gas problem, he added.
