Kuwaiti FM’s visit to Tehran not for mediation: Foreign Ministry

IRNA – The recent visit to Tehran by the Kuwaiti foreign minister aimed to convey the message of the country’s Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, says foreign ministry spokesman.

Bahram Qasemi made the remarks during a press conference on Monday, refuting comments that the trip by Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Sabah, aimed at presenting a message from some Persian Gulf littoral states to Iran in a bid to mediate.

“Contrary to reports by some media, the trip by the Kuwaiti foreign minister was not aimed at mediation,” Qasemi said.

“Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Sabah was carrying a message from the Kuwaiti Emir for President Hassan Rouhani and the trip, from the outset, was within the framework of bilateral ties between the two nations.”

The trip aimed at promoting talks, understanding and consultation between Iran and Kuwait, he said.

“On the agenda were also topics, including international issues,” he added.

In general, the trip by the Kuwaiti officials tended to benefit both sides, the spokesman said.

Iran is going to respond at an appropirate time to the message by Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
