MNA � Parliament speaker has hailed German new president appointment as opportunities for stronger ties with Berlin.

Mr. Ali Larijani sent a congratulatory message to Frank-Walter Steinmeier, former German Foreign Minister who was elected by the Bundestag as the new President of the Federal Republic of Germany earlier on Sunday.

Addressed to the new president of Germany, �friend country,� the statement received the appointment with modest jubilation; �we hope to see your new position will provide opportunities to positively impact the international developments and to work with Tehran to strengthen bilateral ties,� reads the message.

�The new position will definitely serve the Germans in bringing success to the nation and the government,� it concluded.

The daily�Berliner Morgenpost�billed Mr Steinmeier as �the anti-Trump president�. He was elected with 931 of 1,260 votes. The German president has little executive power but is considered an important moral authority.
