Sputnik News- The people loyal to the administration of former US President Barack Obama waged a months-long campaign to take down the new president's National Security Adviser Michael Flynn that eventually led to his resignation, US media reported Wednesday.
On Monday, Flynn stepped downafter information abouthis conversations withRussian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak prior toTrump's inauguration was leaked tothe media and amidthe debates onwhether he violated the Logan Act of1799 that prohibits private US citizens fromengaging withforeign nations indiplomatic disputes.
The campaign, which might have included Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser forstrategic communication, aimed todiscredit Flynn because ofhis skepticism aboutthe nuclear deal withIran, the Washington Free Beacon newspaper reported, citing multiple undisclosed sources, some ofthem frominside the White House.
According tothe newspaper, the effort was meant toprevent the administration ofPresident Donald Trump fromdisclosing secret details ofthe Iranian deal.
The outlet said the sources were concerned that other prominent figures inthe current administration could become targets ofsimilar campaigns next.
