IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani attended on Thursday memorial service held on the fortieth day after the death of Late Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council.
Several governmental officials, as well as parliamentarians, the Judiciary Power and Armed Forces authorities, were also participated at the memorial ceremony held at the Mausoleum of Founder of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini south of Tehran.
Also present at the ceremony, was Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Ayatollah Rafsanjani died on January eight, at the age of 82 due to a heart attack at a hospital in northern Tehran.
As a veteran politician and senior cleric, Rafsanjani played a vital role in the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Described by many revolution pioneers as one of the pillars of the Islamic Revolution, he served in different vital positions following the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran.
