Sartaj Aziz underlines Islamabad's tough campaign against ISIL

FNA- Advisor to Pakistani Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz in a meeting with Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan stressed his country's strenuous efforts to fight against the ISIL terrorist group.

During the meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Aziz underscored Pakistan's determination to fight against terrorism, specially the ISIL.

He also called for the further expansion of defense ties between Tehran and Islamabad by exchanging military delegations and increasing interactions between the two countries' armed forces.

General Dehqan, for his part, described terrorism as the fruit of meddling by foreign countries and supporters of extremism, and said resorting to military aggression and force to overthrow the legal governments in the region will have dire repercussions for other states and will spread terrorism to other regions even those which are now supporting it.

He underlined the necessity for all-out cooperation among the regional states, specially Iran and Pakistan, in the campaign against terrorism, and said Tehran is ready for intelligence and military cooperation in line with its bilateral agreements with Pakistan.

In relevant remarks in August, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran Asif Ali Khan Durrani underlined the importance and necessity for cooperation between the two countries in campaign against terrorist groups.

"Fighting against the terrorist groups is not an easy job and we think that necessary determination and power exists in the Pakistani army and military forces to fight against the terrorists," Rouhani said.

He referred to the activities of terrorist groups in the region, and underscored the necessity for cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad to maintain security at the joint borders and in the region.

Noting that given their common interests and goals, Iran and Pakistan are considered as each other's strategic depth, President Rouhani said, "Tehran welcomes expansion of cooperation with Islamabad in all arenas, specially in the economic field."

Durrani, for his part, emphasized the Pakistani government's preparedness to develop all-out cooperation with Iran, including in the fight against the terrorist groups.
