Lebanese FM offers condolences over strong quake in southeast Iran

Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has offered his condolences to the Iranian government and nation over the recent earthquake that hit the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
Mansour expressed his deep condolences over the quake in a message to Irans Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Thursday.

According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the major earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale hit a sparsely populated rural area between the Iranian provincial cities of Saravan and Khash at a depth of 95 kilometers on Tuesday.

The quake, unprecedented in the past 40 years, was felt across large parts of neighboring Pakistan including Islamabad and the country's largest city, Karachi, where tremors prompted many to rush out of buildings in terror.

Thirty-four people were killed and scores injured in southwestern Pakistan after the powerful earthquake. One Iranian has also been confirmed dead in the quake.

The quake was also felt in the Persian Gulf's littoral states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

On Wednesday, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman also sent a message of condolence to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over the strong earthquake.

Three major tremors have hit different areas in Iran over the past 10 days.

On Thursday, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the northwestern town of Tasooj in Irans East Azarbaijan Province.

Another strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit the town of Kaki, some 90 kilometers southeast of Bushehr, on April 9, at a depth of 12 kilometers. At least 37 people were killed and more than 1,050 others were injured. The quake also destroyed 3,100 homes.
