The Chinese Earthquake Administration says at least 160 people were killed in the earthquake in Sichuan Province on April 20, 2013.[/caption]Irans Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has expressed condolences over the death of scores of people in an earthquake in China's southwestern province of Sichuan.
In a message to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday, Salehi expressed sympathy and condolences to the government and people of China.
The Iranian foreign minister also expressed the countrys readiness to dispatch humanitarian aid to the quake-stricken people.
Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also expressed condolences in a message to his Chinese counterpart Zhang Dejiang.
According to the latest information released by the Chinese Earthquake Administration, the 6.6-magnitude temblor, which hit Lushan County in Sichuan on Saturday, has left at least 160 people dead and more than 6,700 others injured.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang have ordered all possible measures to be taken to rescue the quakes victims, and minimize deaths and sufferings.
The worst of China's earthquakes in recent years happened on May 12, 2008, when an earthquake in Sichuan killed about 70,000 people and left at least 4.8 million people homeless. The 8-magnitude Sichuan earthquake was the deadliest to strike China since the 1976 Tangshan quake, which had a death toll of 240,000.
