2 bodies uncovered in Sefid Sang village

MNA A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck 76 km east-southeast of the city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran on Wednesday.Residents felt the earthquake at 10:39 on Wednesday. It occurred at a depth of 10km, in Sefid Sang village, Fariman city.

There were no reports of casualties or damage so far, said Shahin Fathi, deputy head of rescue operations.

He said assessment teams have been dispatched to the affected regions.

The earthquake created disorder in the communication network and phone calls have been interrupted.

3 aftershocks also hit the region with magnitude of 4, 3.6 and 4.7 on the Richter scale.

Deputy head of rescue operations said reportedly one is dead and four others injured in Sefid Sang village.

More than 10 aftershocks of magnitude 3.1 to 4.7 on the Richter scale shook the region, he added.

Some buildings collapsed in the earthquake-stricken areas.

4 villages in the affected area were destroyed 40 to 100%.

Earthquake caused damage to some historical monuments. Nishapurtraditional bathroom, part of Iran's cultural heritage, was destroyed.

So far, two dead bodies have been pulled from the rubbles in Sefid Sang, Fathi noted, adding search and rescue operations are ongoing in the area.

Astan Quds Razavi announced the earthquakehas caused no damage to the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
