MNA Irans envoy to the OPCW said that Iran demands that a professional and impartial international team investigate how chemical weapons were delivered to terrorists in Syria.
Alireza Jahangiri, Irans envoy to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), said on Thursday, that Iran demands that a professional and impartial international team, comprised of the best international experts, conduct comprehensive field research on the latest incidents in Syria to investigate how chemical weapons were delivered to terrorists in Syria.
After the unfortunate incident in Khan Shaykhun, the world witnessed, for another time, a unilateral, unwise, and violent measure based on false claims, in Shayrat airfield, reiterated the Iranian diplomat after offering sympathies to the innocent people of Syria.
The Iranian ambassador to the OPCW, made the remark while addressing the Executive Council of the OPCW convened by the Chairperson of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Executive Council, Ambassador Odette Melono of Cameroon in consultation with the Director-General of the OPCW, Ambassador Ahmet zmc, to discuss the allegations about the use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheykhun area of southern Idlib in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Mr. Jahangiri highlighted that the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to him as a victim of extensive and systematic use of chemical weapons during the war imposed by Saddam, categorically condemns the use of any weapon of mass destruction by anybody at anywhere and under any circumstances.
The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the use of force, attack on an independent government, the murder of the innocent people based on unverified accusations, and the abuse of false claims as an excuse for unilateral measures, as dangerous, destructive, and violation of the international law and the UN charter, asserted the Iranian diplomat. These kinds of measures complicate the situation in Syria and region and strengthen the terrorist groups in Syria.
He described it of immense surprise that some countries make judgments without having any acknowledgeable, verified, or strong piece of information from reliable sources and accuse other countries. He added that the Director-General of the OPCW, Ambassador Ahmet zmc, has also confirmed that nothing is clear yet and the investigations are in the beginning stages.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation jointly submit the draft for making the decision about forming a fact finding committee to this meeting, stressed the Iranian envoy. He required that the statement of the Islamic Republic of Iran be released as an official document of the OPCW.
