Iran, Georgia call for further banking ties on the eve of Zarif visit

IRNA Irans Ambassador to Tbilisi Javad Qavam-Shahidi and the Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili in a meeting called for facilitating the banking relations between the two countries.


Their recent meeting was held on the eve of the trip of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Tbilisi. Zarif leaves Tehran for three Central Asian and Caucasian states including Georgia on Sunday at the head of a political and economic delegation.

During the meeting, Iranian envoy and the Georgian premier focused on the issue of diplomacy that plays an important role in strengthening bilateral ties.

Qavam-Shahidi said that Iran is willing to develop relations with Georgia in agricultural, transit and transportation fields.

The diplomat called for acceleration of resumption of the banking ties as the Iranian companies are interested in making investment in Georgia.

For his part, the Georgian premier pointed to the cultural and historical relations between Tbilisi and Tehran, expressing hope that the visit of Zarif to his country would widen the bilateral ties.

He further said his country attaches great importance to Zarifs travel.

Georgia will make its all-out efforts to remove the banking hindrances to bilateral cooperation, Kvirikashvili concluded.
