Iran-Boeing contract good message for US investors: US official

IRNA - The contract signed between Iran Aseman Airlines and Boeing Company is one of the achievements of Irans JCPOA that will signal a good message to American firms on having investment opportunities in Iran, an official said.

The Director for Nonproliferation Policy at the Arms Control Association Kelsey Davenport made the remarks in a recent exclusive interview to IRNA.

Davenport pointed to implementing anti-Iranian sanctions by US Congress as violating the United States commitments, predicting that in case of approving sanctions plan, European Union, Russia and China would react.

Washington negotiation partners in the nuclear deal, the United States, France, Germany, Russia and China all made clear that they are committed to the agreement and I think the commitment did play in reminding policy makers in Washington that this is a more vital role and if the united states walked away from the deal, Washington will walk away alone from the deal and that it will far better working with P5+1 to continue to implement the nuclear deal and remain committed to its obligations under the deal, she said in response to the question whether these international concerns are important in the Washington DC.

Answering the question on opening the path for further trade and cooperation between Iran and the US, she said, I think that these will be a level of caution in the United States that maybe higher than other countries like Russia, China or Europe because there is a history of distrust between US and Iran and because US does have sanctions on Iran is other sectors, but I think the Boeing deal does send an important signal to other companies in the US which are interested in having business with Iran that there are opportunities going forward, and I think that one thing that Trump administration should do is making experts in Treasury Department available for companies that want to go in Iran to ensure that they are doing business in a way that does comply with existing US regulations.

Regarding the poitico-trade message of Iran Aseman Airlines and the Boeing Company, she said, I think the Boeing deal is very important. It sends the signal that respects existing sanctions. The Boeing deal also extends the message to Iran that US is going to fulfill its commitment under the deal not only to fit sanctions but also to allow companies to reengage with Iranian markets, so I think that it's critical that the Boeing deal go through.

Asked whether President Trump and the US Congress would move against this agreement between Boeing and Iran Aseman, she answered, Well, I think that blocking he Boeing deal could go against Trumps commitment to US building jobs and bring back the certain manufacturing industry so, in promoting the deal he not only does that in line with US commitment under the agreement, but it also supports Trumps domestic policy in US to build jobs.

On the message signaled by Trumps not blocking the deal, she added, I think there are two political messages first, Trump would be sending a message to companies in US and abroad that business with Iran that abide US sanctions will be supported by US, the second political message to the American people that Trump is serious about its commitment to support job creation in the United States.

When asked to elaborate a bit more like what parts could contradict the US commitment, she noted, So, the bill put forward by members of the Senate does have several problems, first I think some of the sanctions language is overly broad and that could prevent companies from doing business with Iran because they may not know how the US will interpret and apply its overly broad sanctions on ballistic missile activities, so I think that is the problem, the second problem is that the bill would require the president to make certain certification before delisting entities that have been involved in ballistic missile activities and the US is committed to the deal on transition day to delist Iranian entities. So I think these charges determine the deal and I think thats not what the US has originally committed to do.

This is a multilateral agreement, and I think the US is obligated to listen to its negotiating partner when they express concerns on how US actions put impact the agreement and the European Union as well as Russia and China should be forthcoming when US is taking action that would be a problem for the deal. I mean the agreement is on the work if all parties abide by the commitment, she went on to say on Trump commitment to JCPOA.

Iran Aseman Airlines on April 4 inked an agreement with Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Company to purchase 60 Boeing 737 MAX passenger planes.

Under the terms of the agreement, Boeing will gradually deliver the planes to Aseman Airlines as of 2019, five to ten of which will be delivered in the very first year.
Boeing Company is an American corporation designing, manufacturing, and selling airplanes worldwide.

The Boeing 737 MAX is an American narrow-body jetliner series being developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the successor to the Boeing 737 Next Generation series.
