Iran's Intelligence Minister: 75 terrorist groups disbanded in 3 years

FNA- Iranian Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alavi announced that the country's security forces have dismantled and clamped down on 75 terrorist groups in the past three years, seizing magnetic bombs and suicide vests from them.

"Last (Iranian) year (ended on March 20), 30 terrorist teams which sought to carry out terrorist operations were identified and clamped down and during the two years before the last year, 45 terrorist teams were identified and disbanded," Alavi said in an interview with the state-run TV on Monday night.

He said that 108 magnetic bombs, 15 suicide vests and tens of roadside bombs were discovered and seized from the terrorist groups in the past three years.

Alavi also said that a group which plotted to create tensions during the presidential election time (due to be held on May 19) was identified and dismantled.

Alavi announced in April that the country's security forces have foiled 30 bombing and terrorist plots by enemies in the past Iranian year.

"Today the country is experiencing sustainable security. The Iranian security forces defused all enemy plots and over 30 bombing plots were discovered and foiled by them last year, but we have informed people only of 5 of them," Alavi said, addressing a ceremony in the Northern city of Sari.

He underlined that the Iranian security and intelligence forces dont allow the enemies and terrorists to challenge the country.

Alavi had disclosed in February that the country's security forces identified and arrested eight main elements of a Takfiri terrorist group who were planning to carry out attacks across the country.

"Iranian security forces had managed to foil an organized plot by Takfiri groups to disrupt celebrations marking the 38th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on February 10," Alavi said.

The intelligence minister reiterated that in the operation carried out on February 3-9, a secret network of terrorist elements was identified near Tehran and in some western and eastern provinces of the country and eight individuals of its key members were arrested.

"All those arrested were non-Iranian nationals and some of them were linked to a ringleader of a Takfiri group, who has recently been killed, the minister added.
