Allegations ofa chemical attack inKhan Sheikhoun inSyria's Idlib province is part ofa campaign todemonize the country's authorities and a cover forthe US intervention inSyria, Syrian President Bashar Assad said inan interview withBelarus ONT channel onThursday.

"Of course, it was part ofthe campaign waged onSyria withthe aim ofdemonizing the Syrian state After they failed inmarketing their policy towardsISIS [Daesh] and al-Nusra throughtheir support ofthese two organizations directly or indirectly they wanted towash their hands ofthe subject and toshow that the problem inSyria is not ISIS and al-Nusra butthe state which is killing its innocent citizens byusing toxic gases," Assad said astranslated and quoted bythe Syrian state-run SANA news agency, when asked aboutthe nature ofthe chemical attack.
