Tasnim Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Moon Jae-in on winning the election to become the 12th president of South Korea.
In a message on Saturday, President Rouhani expressed the hope that Moons tenure would mark an expansion of relations between Tehran and Seoul.
The Iranian president also wished his new counterpart and the Korean nation success and prosperity.
Liberal politician Moon Jae-in was declared the winner in South Korea's presidential election on May 9, ending nearly a decade of conservative rule.
Moon gathered 41 percent of the votes, comfortably edging conservative Hong Joon-pyo and centrist Ahn Cheol-soo, who gathered 24 percent and 21 percent of the votes, respectively.
Moon succeeds Park Geun-hye, who was forced from office in March after being impeached and accused of collecting or demanding $52 million in bribes from Samsung and other big businesses.
