Tasnim � Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Moon Jae-in on winning the election to become the 12th president of South Korea.

In a message on Saturday, President Rouhani expressed the hope that Moon�s tenure would mark an expansion of relations between Tehran and Seoul.

The Iranian president also wished his new counterpart and the Korean nation success and prosperity.

Liberal politician Moon Jae-in was declared the winner in South Korea's presidential election on May 9, ending nearly a decade of conservative rule.

Moon gathered 41 percent of the votes, comfortably edging conservative Hong Joon-pyo and centrist Ahn Cheol-soo, who gathered 24 percent and 21 percent of the votes, respectively.

Moon succeeds Park Geun-hye, who was forced from office in March after being impeached and accused of collecting or demanding $52 million in bribes from Samsung and other big businesses.
