IRNA -- Iran's Cultural Counsellor in Pakistan says Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pays special heed to friendlily relations with Pakistan.


Shahaboddin Daraei said this while talking to the delegation of Institute of Asian Civilizations, Quaid-e-Azam University at Irans Cultural Consulate in Islamabad.

He referred to a meeting between Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Khamenei) and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2014 in which the Iranian spiritual leader emphasized expansion of ties between Iran and Pakistan.

The Iranian official stressed the need for more interaction between the educational and cultural institutes of the two countries.

The Iranian cultural attach went on to say that Iran and Pakistan have many cultural commonalities. He added that border between Iran and Pakistan is 900 kilometers, but their friendship is thousands of years old.

He added that Iran is a country with 7,000-year-old heritage and civilization. He also named many ancient Persian philosophers, scholars, historians, mathematicians, astrologers, physicists, chemists whose work are being taught in western institutions.

Shahaboddin Daraei said that this year Pakistan will hold a cultural week in Iran which would help the people of the two countries to come more close to each other.

Earlier chairman of Institute of Asian Civilizations, Quaid-e-Azam University, Ghani-ur-Rehman expressing his views called for exchange of frequent visits of the teachers and students of Iran and Pakistan to know each others culture.

During the program a short documentary about Iran and the achievements of the Islamic Revolution was also shown in which the visiting students expressed deep interest.
