FNA- Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan underlined that existence of different threats requires the country to boost its capabilities to defend itself against cyber attacks and electronic warfare.

"The cyberspace and electronic warfare is one of the most important components of the Armed Forces' power and we should increase our capabilities in this field day by day," General Pourdastan said on Sunday.

He also underscored the necessity for strengthening the country's deterrence power, and said all US plots against Iran have been defused by the Armed Forces' preparedness.

His remarks came after Iran's communications and information technology ministry announced that a home-made anti-virus software named 'Padovish' has blocked the WannaCry virus to affect the country's computer systems.

"The Ransomeware virus which has massively attacked the adjacent countries' systems was identified by the home-made Padvish anti-ransomware-virus and the systems which had installed the anti-virus have not been harmed," the ministry said on Wednesday.

In relevant remarks earlier today, Head of Iran's Civil Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali said that the US intelligence services are to blame for the WannaCry virus that affected tens of thousands of computers worldwide.

"The preliminary studies have indicated that the virus has originated from the US and is related to the US intelligence agency, and the US has not been harmed in the (virus) attack," Jalali said on Wednesday.

Stressing that the ransomware virus showed that cyber threat is a serious issue, he advised the internet users to install the Iranian anti-ransomware-virus software to remain safe from its attacks.
