IRNA Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi said that Iran-Azerbaijan relations will serve as a role model for neighboring states during the tenure of 12th government.
He made the remarks in a ceremony marking Azerbaijan Republics Independence Day on Tuesday which was attended by the Tehran-based ambassadors and political as well as cultural figures in Azerbaijan Embassy in the Iranian capital.
Vaezi, also head of Iran-Azerbaijan Economic Cooperation Joint Commission, added, Given cordial relations between the two presidents (Hassan Rouhani and Ilham Aliyev), I have no doubt that we will take further positive steps in the 12th governments tenure.
Incumbent President Rouhani was re-elected as the 12th president of Iran on May 19 elections winning over 57% of votes.
Addressing the ceremony at the Azerbaijans Embassy in Tehran, Azeri Ambassador to Iran Bonyad Hosseinov said 25 years after establishment of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Baku, Iran and Azerbaijan enjoy a dynamic and growing bilateral relation.
Azerbaijan was incorporated into the former Soviet Union in 1920 as the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. The modern Republic of Azerbaijan proclaimed its independence on 30 August 1991, prior to the official dissolution of the USSR in December 1991.
Iran-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations are based on a long-term friendly and brotherly ties since Baku has gained its independence, said the Azeri ambassador.
He added that over the past four years, presidents of the two countries held eight round of bilateral talks and over 100 delegations have been exchanged between the two capitals.
During the same period, Hosseinov added, some 50 documents were signed by the two countries, and their trade turnover in 2016 surged by 75 percent.
