IRNA Presidnet Hassan Rouhani said that his administration has done its best to alleviate poverty, boost production and employment and he will attempt to give new momentum to his efforts in his second term as president.


Rouhani who has been reelected as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran was talking with Qom religious leaders on Friday.

In his meeting with Shia source of emulation, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem-Shirazi, the ayatollah told the president that the role of private sector in goods producion should be reinvigorated and efforts should be made to raise quality of domestically-made products.

Referring to the governments efforts to reduce poverty and help the underprivileged, Ayatollah Makarem said that thanks God, the government has achieved good success in the field.

The government should act in such a way that its economic achievements become more tangible in the peoples livelihoods, he said.

Appreciating massive turnout in presidential elections on May 19, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi congratulated Rouhani on his reelection, saying that the huge turnout will have a great impact on regional nations.

Rouhani, for his part, described public participation in elections as a role model not only for regional states rather for the entire world, saying that the massive turnout is a source of honor for the Iranian people and the Islamic Republic.

Noting that the pensions of the underprivileged increased during his government, the president said that the government has done all within its power to alleviate poverty and boost production and employment in the country.

Rouhani also met Ayatollah Vahid Khorasani, Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani and Ayatollah Safi-Golpayegani during his visit to Qom.

The ayatollahs all wished success for the government as Rouhani presented a report on his administrations performance in the last four years as well as plans for his new term in office.
