Iran seeks not to intervene in domestic affairs of Bahrain: MFA spox

IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Monday that Iran does not intervene in internal affairs of Bahrain.

Qasemi made the remarks during his weekly press conference when asked by a reporter what Iran has done in reaction to major crackdown of the opposition groups by Bahraini government over past week when they even attacked the house of top Shiite cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim.

Iran pursues non-intervention policy in dealing with other countries, neighboring countries in particular, Qasemi said.

He, however, described the recent incidents in Bahrain as bitter and also violation of human rights.

Qasemi regretted that such acts of violence are happening after US President Donald Trump's visit to a regional country (Saudi Arabia).

He advised the Bahraini government to exercise self-restraint and respect the beliefs of others and avoid bothering its citizens.

He noted that the crackdown will work for a limited period of time and then will reach the boiling point which will further exacerbate the problems.
