Security forces ready for Imam Khomeini’s demise anniversary: Commander

Tasnim – The Iranian security forces are fully prepared to ensure the safety of people in the upcoming mourning ceremony marking the anniversary of the passing away of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, at his mausoleum south of Tehran, a commander said.

Lieutenant Commander of Iran's Basij (volunteer) Force General Ali Fazli said on Saturday that security and intelligence forces are fully ready to ensure the security of the Sunday’s event at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum.

Many measures have been taken and all preparations have been made for the mourning ceremony, he added.

The commander also called for efforts to provide the best services for pilgrims travelling to Imam Khomeini’s shrine from the neighboring provinces, considering that the mourners fast in the holy month of Ramadan.

Iranians are ready to mark the 28th anniversary of the demise of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, on Sunday.

Visitors from across the country, as well as high-ranking Iranian officials along with groups of foreign guests and ambassadors will be taking part in the commemoration ceremony.

Every year, large crowds of Iranians travel to Tehran from different parts of the country to pay tribute to Imam Khomeini at his shrine.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87.
