Two arrested by UK police after Facebook video shows Quran burning

Sputnik - Two people in the UK have been arrested for posting a video to social media showing a man burning a Muslim religious text.





The video, posted toYouTube and Facebook, shows a tattooed man complaining tothe camera that hes having trouble starting a bonfire, saying, "Ive been trying toget my poxy fire started forhalf-hour wondering what sh*t I can get it going with."
The man then shows a paperback copy ofthe Koran. "And then I found this," he explains. "And it worked, all Ive got left is the poxy, sh*tty cover and look, thats onthe fire aswell."He then begins ripping outpages and tossing them intothe flames.


The video surfaced days aftera terror attack onLondon Bridge, inwhich a car mowed intopedestrians beforethe cars passengers and driver then exited the vehicle and began stabbing people, leaving eight dead and dozens injured.

Some ofthe attackers were reportedly radicalized bywatching videos ofIslamic extremists.
Fahad Khan, a cousin bymarriage ofthe attacks suspected ringleader Khuram Butt, told the Independent, "Khuram, I know he was inspired byone ofthe sheikhs who was giving lectures onYouTube, and he belonged toone specific sector ofIslam which had very rigid and strict views Videos aboutfighting non-Muslims forno reasons, innocent non-Muslims."


The video comes followingan investigation fromthe Press Association that found that Twitter and Facebook had not taken downposts fromnationalist group Britain First, which often publishes videos making false claims aboutimmigrants attacking women and police.

West Mercia Police arrested the man, 45, fromWorcestershire, and a woman, also 45, fromEvesham, onsuspicion ofposting images that may incite racial hatred.

"This was a concerning incident and we will be carrying outa thorough investigation. It is being investigated asa hate crime," said Superintendent Kevin Purcell
He added, "'We have been incontact withour local Muslim community viaCouncillor Jabba Riaz, deputy mayor forWorcester, who asalways acts asa critical friend insupport ofwhat we do.


"If anyone has any concerns aboutsocial media posts that potentially incite hate I would urge them not toshare the posts butto report the incident tothe police and social media company atthe earliest opportunity."
