Iranian karateka vice-champion at TWG 2017

MNA Karate practitioner Amir Mehdizadeh suffered a loss against Azerbaijani rival to stand on the second podium at The World Games (TWG) 2017 underway in Poland.


Competing at the international sportive extravaganza, the Iranian representative failed to overcome Firdosi Farzaliyev of Azerbaijan in the final showdown of Men's Kumite 60kg.

Mehdizadeh had previously breezed past Douglas Santos Brose from Brazil in his opening encounter before thrashing Frances Sofiane Agoudjil 3-1 in the Elimination Pool A fight.

On road to the semifinals, the Persian karateka had to down Maciej Waldemar Drazweski of the host country 5-0. He later subdued Matias Gomez Garcia of Spain to reach finals of the 60-kilogram weight category.

Four other Iranian karate fighters Ali Asghar Asiabari (-75kg), Zabihollah Pourshib (-84kg) and Sajad Gangzadeh (+84kg) will meet rivals in Mens division while Irans only female karate representative, Hamideh Abbasali, will compete in Womens +68kg category.

The city of Wroc?aw, the capital of Lower Silesian Voivodeship with more than 640.000 residents, is playing host to the 10th edition of The World Games 2017 from 20th to 30th July.

At quadrennial intervals, in the years following the Games of the Olympiad, the worlds best athletes in these sports unite in their common search for excellence during The World Games.
