Sputnik - Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri on Saturday noted the good results of the talks on the creation of the free trade area between the country and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The EAEU, comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, is an international organization that encourages regional economic integration throughthe free movement ofgoods, services, and people withinthe union.
In December 2016, president ofthe EAEU states approved the start oftalks todraft an agreement ona free trade area withIran, Egypt, India and Singapore.
"As part ofthe negotiations process, we have reached important results overthe short term. I hope that we will tackle the rest uncoordinated issues inthe nearfuture. I am sure that our meeting will contribute tothis," Jahangiri said duringthe meeting withChairman ofthe Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Board Tigran Sargsyan, asquoted ina statement bythe EEC press service.
Sargsyan, inturn, noted that all the EAEU countries were interested insigning the temporary agreement onthe free trade area creation withIran, the statement said. The chairman ofthe EEC Board added that inthe future, the parties should conclude the more comprehensive agreement thanthe temporary one which was discussed byboth Iranian and EAEU negotiators.
Both Jahangiri and Sargsyan noted the need toaccelerate the signing ofthe agreement and expressed the readiness tosupport the negotiations process, according tothe statement.
The parties also noted that the free trade and lifting ofthe non-tariff barriers would contribute tothe increase ofthe Iran-EAEU turnover level, the document concluded.
The meeting betweenJahangiri and Sargsyan took place aspart ofthe latters visit toIran timed tothe inauguration ofthe countys reelected President Hassan Rouhani.
In May 2017, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Nebenzya said the negotiations betweenthe EAEU and Iran ona temporary free trade area agreement could be finished bythe next EAEU summit, scheduled forOctober 11.
